Mirrors..

Look at the two pictures below, taken at the same tee on the same golf course in Cornwall but over 20 years apart. The first was on a family holiday to the Bude area of North Cornwall about 25 years ago. I then went to Cornwall this summer and stumbled across the same course totally by coincidence and remembered the original photo. The second photo is a reconstruction done purely by memory...

Note: the tee markers are the same still, and you can just make out the same house in the background.

The Great War

An interesting fact for you..the First World War will officially come to an end this Sunday when Germany pays off the last instalment of its war reparations.

According to German newspaper Bild, a final payment of £59.5 million will end Germany’s war debt and tie up the final, unfinished piece of business left over from the Great War. Bild said today: “On Sunday, the last bill is due and the First World War finally, financially at least, terminates for Germany.”

The reparations, meant to compensate war-torn Belgium and France, began again after the Second World War and will be cleared when the final payment is made on Sunday, 3 October.

Space Shuttle Discovery

Space shuttle Discovery is preparing for her final flight on mission STS-133, the 35th shuttle mission to the International Space Station.  Target launch date is Nov 1.

Here's a short video on her final roll out from the Vehicle Assembly building to Launch pad 39A at Kennedy Space Station.

Aliens: Is Disclosure near...

Conspiracy theorists have for years hinted that Alien contact has been made and the information hushed up.  It's been stated that the 'Secret' government who actually run the USA have been drip feeding the possibility of the existence of intelligent Alien life to the world through the media over the last 40 years with documentaries, movies, documents, groups etc all supplanting the idea of Aliens into mainstream society consciousness.  This has apparantly had the desired effect of making most people in the states actually believe in the possibility of the existence of Aliens - job done.

Are the stakes rising...is disclosure getting nearer..

Firstly there is this article "America's X Files: Top U.S. airmen to accuse Air Force of cover-up as they claim UFOs have been deactivating nuclear missiles since 1948"

When is the Autumn Equinox and how is it celebrated?

The Autumn Equinox is celebrated on the 22nd/23rd September in the northern hemisphere, and the 20th/21st of March in the Southern Hemisphere. At this time the Sun is directly overhead at the equator and day and night are of approximately equal lengths. At equinox, the Sun rises everywhere on Earth (except the Poles) at about 6am in the morning and sets at about 6pm in the evening (though this can vary a little when time zones and daylight saving etc are taken into account).
NB: At the North Pole the Autumn Equinox is effectively the Polar sunset whilst the South Pole experiences it as a Polar sunrise.
Also known as the September equinox, the event signifies the first day of autumn in the UK. The autumn equinox is also used to determine the date of the traditional harvest festival which is held on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the autumn equinox.

The 2010 Autumnal Equinox takes place on September 23th, at 4.03am UK time

Bolognaise

Tonight I'm making that old favourite Spag Bol.  Now apart from the usual mince, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms etc, what do you add to yours to make it different from the rest?
Me, I use a beef stock when cooking the mince, add bacon and carrott, always use fresh basil and parmesan and add passatta for the tomato background flavour.  So come on then, what do you do to yours..? (replies of 'open jar of Dolmio' will be ignored, Ed you know who you are lol)

Courtesy...

...where has it gone?

Twice today in the car I've pulled in to let another oncoming car pass through though the obstruction is on their side, twice they've just sailed through without so much as a wave of the hand, thanks or any recognition whatsoever.  I've held doors open for women who have just sailed through without a thanks or a nod, nothing - zilch. It's as though i'm a male and so HAVE to stop and hold it open for them it's what us men are expected to do.

I've been on the London tube recently and seen fit healthy young males occupy seats whilst the infirm and elderly have had to stand (I gave my seat to a female on a crowded Peterborough to Kings X two weeks ago-she said thanks)

Everyday I see people pushing past others without so much as an 'excuse me' and I'm not even going to mention people talking on mobiles where ever they want without consideration for others.

Is it me?

Short Film number 2

This one is called One of those days. Slightly longer than usual at 12 mins but as it's the weekend what the 'hell'. This excellent satire imagines judgement day as a bureaucratic nightmare, with angels in high viz jackets herding souls to eternity. A fine black comedy.

Short Film of the day

Some days I'll post a short movie - never longer than 3 mins.  Some are thought provoking, some humourous and some downright silly.  Have a look, see what you think...

Battle of Britain Day

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Winston Churchill  "..Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few"

"Per Ardua ad Astra"

Wem-ber-leeeee!

Went to Wembley earlier this month for the RL Challange Cup final.  Although the result wasn't quite what was wanted a good day was had by all.  Still, if we lift the Super League for a record breaking 4th consecutive season, all will be forgiven.
Here we are decorating one of the Lions in Trafalgar square.

We had good seats too...wasted!

Visit to East Lincs Aviation Centre

This weekend I visited East Kirkby aviation centre with Ollie and my Dad.  Had a great time.  There was a World War II lancaster doing Taxi runs and a Spitfire and Messerschmitt performing a dogfight over the airbase.  The Messerschmitt attacked the base with on field pyrotechnics representing falling bombs from the Messerschmitt.  I am pleased to report that the Spit won, chasing away the beaten Messerscmitt into the Lincolnshire sunset. See the video below of part of the display.

Here is a pic 'Just Jane' NX611 - the Lancaster. Dad is teaching Ollie where the bomb bay doors are.
