Santa Steam Train Special

Today we went on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway Santa Steam Special train!  It was great, Scrooge came through the carriage first and was roundly booed pantomine style followed by Santa who got cheered to the rafters lol.  Mince pies and sherry for the adults and presents and badges for the kids.  Then a lovely trundling trip through a snowy Worth Valley behind two hard working steam trains.
Wow, two steam trains!
This is great Dad

Bless this little boy..

EYES RIGHT is a command usually reserved to show respect for government officials and high ranking heads of state or political persons. For that commander to show such regard for that little boy is a wonderful thing

Jack is coming..

If you listen carefully you can hear the whispers...

"Jack is coming, Jack is coming"
Scurry scurry goes the squirrel and his mate
Working, running, gathering nuts till late

"Jack is coming, Jack is coming"
Hawk the crowing of the crow
Time to leave before the coming of the snow

"Jack is coming, Jack is coming..."

The tired leaves begin to fall
At the beckoning of Winters call
The Summer sun has lost it's glow
Fox and vixen down tunnels will go

"Jack is coming, Jack is coming"

Bark the dogs, as the farmer chops his logs
The word is passed from cat to mouse and toad to frog

"Jack is coming, Jack is coming"

Robin is here in his finest red jumper
Watching the woodsman chopping his lumber
The mouse has moved house, he's under the floor
As little monsters with smiles trick and treat at your door

"Jack is coming..."

With dead icy ground, it's announced with a sneer
The icicles formed, it's the first of the year
The little boy through the window peers
Then rushes to tell his mother........ "Jack is here"

Vase found in house clearance fetches £43m

Chinese vase circa 1740s from the Qianlong period
The Qianlong-period vase dating from about 1740 sold at 40 times its estimate

A Chinese vase, found by a brother and sister in a clearout of their recently deceased parents’ house in Pinner, north-west London, has sold for a record £43m at an auction in London.
The 18th Century Qianlong piece, standing at 16 inches, sky blue and yellow in colour with intricate paintings of fish and dragons on its surface, was estimated to sell for £1.2m by auction house Bainbridges.
However, after half an hour of intense bidding, the vase eventually went to a private buyer – believed to be from Beijing – for £43m, far surpassing expectations.

43 Million pounds..say it slowly..40-3-million-pounds....for a vase.  It's not even THAT old!  Does this not show how mad the world has become?  Hope they drop it :)

Lest we forget...

In Flanders Fields

by John McCrae, May 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
